I would like to open a checking account and get a debit card. I had bad credit but i PAID all of my past debts off so now i own nothing.the last thing i paid for ( a repo on a car i had 5 years ago) 2 months ago. I had tried at peoples bank about 4 years ago and they declined me for a debit card but gave me a checking account. i eventually did b/c my husband spoke with the manager since hes been with them for 6 years. I would like to switch to another bank but worried that they may decline me. any ideas?

Have you had any trouble with the debit card that you finally have? I would go ahead and open an account with another bank and try to get the debit card before you close down your other account. That way if you don%26#039;t get it you still have your other account. When you go in to set up the new account, they will let you know right then if you can have a debit card. Some just check telecheck or Check systems for bad checks.

Myself, it is kind of stupid to do credit check for your own money. I can understand why they check for bad checks but that should be all.

If they deny you the check card with the Visa or MasterCard logo. Ask them for an Atm that can be used at merchant as a pin transaction. Make sure the bank does not charge you a pin transaction fee.
