Yes you sure will become co-responsible for any bills. A lawer can argue that the bills were incured BEFORE the marriage, but debt collectors, and the IRS REALLY don%26#039;t care. They will go after you, unless a court order tells them to stop.

How do I know....been there, done that. Wouldn%26#039;t marry someone with a lot of debt, or poor credit EVER again.

Happily re-married now to someone who has ZERO debt. We have no bills what-so-ever, except the phone, mortgage, and internet.

hiss bills are his bills yours are yours, the only ones you would have are the ones you have jointly

edit i did not see back taxes, if he has back taxes and you guys file jointly, you will need to file a form 8379 which is an injured spouse form so you will get your share of the tax refund because his probably gets taken away to pay for his previously owed taxes

if on the bills, its just his name, it will all effect his credit, if its joint then it will be yours and his, just your name, just your credit.

Yes, once you are married then legally his debt becomes your debt. Keep that in mind before you get married.

Try getting him to write own all of his debt so that you two can go over it together and try to figure out a way to pay a monthly payment to help get rid of this money issue before you get married.

Can they dock your pay for his bills? No. But if you%26#039;re pooling assets at all it%26#039;s in your best interest to look hard at them.

if hes got all that debt on his name what do you think he is going to do your combined credit in the future, if a person has debt of student loans thats ok but utility debt , and back taxes are usually a sign of a problem. i hope i am wrong, but i used to rent houses and run credit reports, and usually when people dont pay their utilities then they dont pay anything, the answer to your question is no, you didnt sign the papers he did,
